During his address at IIT Bombay’s Techfest, DRDO Chairman Samir V. Kamat emphasized the pivotal role of cyber defence and deterrence in India’s national security. He noted that cyber warfare is an ongoing, undeclared conflict, with India being among the most targeted nations globally. Kamat drew parallels between cyber security and the strategic nuclear domain, highlighting the necessity for both defensive and deterrent capabilities to prevent attacks. He also discussed the future of warfare as network-centric, where seamless real-time information exchange is crucial. Technologies such as satellite communication and software-defined radios are expected to provide a decisive edge in this context. Additionally, Kamat mentioned DRDO’s initiatives to foster innovation, including the establishment of five ‘Young Scientists Laboratories’ focusing on advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and smart materials.
