Different Types of Motorcycle Tyres

Different Types of Motorcycle Tyres

Motorcycles are as much a convenient mode of transportation as they are fun to drive. Compared to scooters, the biggest advantage that motorcycles have is that they have much larger tyres. As motorcycles are very versatile, they can be used in different places and terrains. To ensure that motorcycles can operate safely and effectively in different types of terrains, various types of bike tyres suitable for specific riding conditions are sold in the market. Tyres are covered in comprehensive bike insurance as a standard cover.

Different Types of Bike Tyres:

• Standard road tyres:

These are the tyres which most bike companies sell as standard when you buy a bike. These are meant to perform best on roads and reasonably well on other terrains. They are also designed to strike a good balance between comfort, durability and long service life. Bike insurance also covers these by default.

• Sport touring tyres:

These are the tyresused on bikes meant for long-distance travel. These kinds of tyres are not available for your general commuter bikes. These are forhigh-power bikes which have been designed from the ground up to be used for very long rides, generally two hundred-pluskilometresa day. These bikes are heavy because of their large engines and big seats. That is why touring tyres are also very wide.

• Off-roadtyres:

These are purelyadventure-purpose bike tyres, which are meant to be used mostly off-road. They have very wide and deep treads to maintain a strong grip in gravel, mud and sand. While they can be used on the road, they are best at home away from the road because they will make the ride on the road supremely uncomfortable.

• Racing tyres:

These are also known as slicks and they have very low-depth treads. Tread induces friction between the tyre and the road, thus providing grip. With slicks, the tread is minimal and thus they have bare minimum friction, which ensuresthe bike can go as fast as it can.

Conclusion:

All in all, different types of bike tyres are meant for use in different road conditions and purposes. For most people, normal road tyres are the best choice. Other types can be considered according to your bike type and the riding condition.
