National Wellness Month: Ways to improve Emotional Health

1. Spend some quality time with yourself:

Even if it is just for 10 minutes daily, spend time with yourself as this helps to sort your thoughts, plan your steps, and just be yourself.

2. Stay active:

Inactivity is the biggest enemy of your emotional health. So, take time out for your daily exercise regime as physical activity not only helps you stay fit but it also helps to release endorphins which can boost emotional health.

3. Reach out to your friends:

One conversation with your friends can help you understand your thoughts better and lighten your stress and mood.

4. Work on a gratitude manual:

Make it a point to go to sleep with a heart full of gratitude and wake up the same way. If you find yourself struggling to do that, maintain a physical gratitude manual and each day write 5 things which you are grateful.

5. Be kind to yourself:

While goals and deadlines are important, remember that you can boost emotional health only with kindness. Give yourself a break every now and then, and applaud yourself when starting afresh.

6. Get enough sleep:

Your sleep and emotional health are deeply connected. Follow a consistent bedtime routine and keep your gadgets aside at least an hour before going to bed.

Fresh fruits and vegetables not only detox your body but it detox your mind as well and helps you remain more in control of emotions.

9. Accept what you cannot change:

Acceptance is a virtue that only a rare few have mastered. Avoid micromanaging your life and learn to accept changes.

10. Take responsibility for your own life:

Often, emotional distress stems from having unrealistic expectations from others, but one must remember that they are solely responsible for their own happiness and fulfilment. The day you realise this, life will be simpler.
