Anyone applying for a driving license must go through the RTO Exam. The test differs as per the driving licence (DL) you have applied for driving that particular vehicle. DL tests differ for driving a two wheeler with gear and without gear. Similarly, a separate test has to be given for driving a car. A valid Indian driving licence is required to drive legally in India. The licence allows the vehicle owner or the driver of the motor vehicle to drive the vehicle on public roads legally. In India, the driving licence is issued by the state's Regional Transport Authority (RTA) or Regional Transport Office (RTO). However, before applying for a learner’s licence or driving licence, you should be aware of the type of test that you will have to clear to get the Driving Licence.
There are two type of tests for getting a DL. The first one is a preliminary test which is held for getting a learner’s license. The second is a driving test which is conducted to get a driving license for both private and commercial
vehicle.
Preliminary Test: Here the RTO checks whether the candidate who has applied for driving licence has basic knowledge regarding driving or not. RTO checks that by asking multiple choice questions related to the following
points:
• Rules and regulations pertaining to driving on roads
• Responsibilities of a driver in case of an accident.
• Traffic signal and signage.
• Documents to be carried while driving a vehicle
It is important to note that a person having a learner’s licence can only drive a vehicle, if he/she is accompanied by a full licence holder.
Driving Test: : You are eligible to give a driving test at least
one month from the date you have received learner’s licence. Also, learner licence holder should go through this test within six months after clearing the preliminary test. During this test, you will be have to drive a vehicle on
the RTO’s driving track accompanied by the examiner. Your driving skills are tested and evaluated by replicating real-life driving situations such as taking a turn at angles, changing gears smoothly, reversing the vehicle, etc
After you clear the driving test, you get permanent driving licence. After obtaining the DL, an individual should drive safely. Also, while driving, the driver should ensure that the vehicle has a car insurance or two wheeler insurance
policy. As per Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, it is mandatory to drive a vehicle with at least a third party insurance cover.
To obtain a learner's licence, one must be familiar with rules and regulations of road safety and driving. During a preliminary test for learner’s licence, you will not be required to drive a motor vehicle. However, you will have to clear a learning licence test with multiple choice test questions that will examine their knowledge of road rules and traffic signs.
The eligibility Criteria for the RTO Driving Exam are as follows:
A learning licence is given to a person to allow them to practise driving on Indian roads under the supervision of someone who has a valid driving licence. The RTO operates in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, which requires individuals to hold a learning licence. To obtain a learning licence, an individual must clear the preliminary test before. A learning licence is valid for 6 months, after which the applicant must apply for a permanent Driving Licence
In order to get the permanent driving licence an individual must first clear preliminary test to get the learner’s licence. After clearing the first test, you can give driving test within six months from getting the learner’s licence. Post driving test clearance, you will get permanent driving licence.
