Chinese automaker BYD has surpassed Tesla to become the world’s largest producer of pure electric cars. This milestone underscores BYD's rapid growth and strategic initiatives in the global EV market. In December 2024, BYD delivered 207,734 all-electric vehicles, a 9% increase from the same period the previous year. As reported by the Economic Times, the company delivered about 595,000 vehicles in the 4th quarter, which is more than Tesla's record of just under 496,000 EVs.
Throughout the year 2024, BYD sold about 1.768 million EVs, a 12% increase compared to the previous year, while Tesla's sales slightly decreased to 1.79 million EVs. BYD implemented significant discounts, making its vehicles more accessible to a broader range of consumers.
The company expanded its product line to include hybrids, appealing to consumers seeking alternatives to traditional combustion engines. BYD has been actively expanding into international markets, including Europe, Brazil, and Southeast Asia, broadening its global footprint.
