The Andhra Pradesh government has launched ‘WhatsApp Governance’ on January 30, 2025, enabling residents to access 161 public services through the widely used messaging platform. In the first phase, services from departments such as Endowments, Energy, APSRTC, Revenue, Anna Canteens, CM Relief Fund, and Municipal Departments are available. This digital initiative is designed to minimize the necessity for citizens to visit government offices, thereby enhancing efficiency and accessibility. During a review meeting at the State Secretariat, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was briefed on the program’s implementation. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding citizens’ data against cyber threats and instructed officials to bolster forensic and cybersecurity measures. The state had previously entered into an agreement with Meta on October 22, 2024, to facilitate service delivery via WhatsApp. This move positions Andhra Pradesh as a pioneer in leveraging messaging technology for governance.
