Chinese Hackers Target U.S. Critical Infrastructure, Warns Cybersecurity Official

Chinese hackers have infiltrated U.S. critical infrastructure networks, preparing for potential future conflicts, according to Morgan Adamski, executive director of U.S. Cyber Command. These cyber operations, linked to state-sponsored groups, target systems crucial for energy, water, and communications, positioning them for potential disruption during crises.

Adamski emphasized that these activities reflect a deliberate strategy to gain leverage over U.S. operations. The announcement follows revelations about “Salt Typhoon,” a China-linked cyber espionage campaign compromising telecommunications networks and sensitive data, including communications of political leaders.

The U.S. government has intensified countermeasures, involving sanctions, law enforcement actions, and global partnerships to expose and disrupt Chinese cyber operations. Despite Beijing’s denials, the risks posed by such intrusions underscore the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures to protect national infrastructure .
