According to the latest data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), deaths due to cardiac arrests saw a 12.5% rise, from 28,413 in 2021 to 32,457 in 2022. The NCRB data also put the sudden deaths at 56,450 for 2022, up from 50,734 in 2021. These shocking numbers have led the Health Ministry to announce a nationwide CPR training program to help people revive from sudden cardiac arrest. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Studies (NBEMS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is all set to launch this training program. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, is an emergency lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating. The American Heart Association states that immediate CPR can double or triple the chances of survival after a sudden heart attack.
In this government initiative, around 10 lakh participants, including students, professionals, and paramedical staff from across the country, will receive training from experts through online mediums. A heart attack is a medical emergency which needs immediate hospitalisation and treatment. A delay in reaching the hospital can cost one dearly. Expenses involved in heart surgery are also skyrocketing these days. Medical or health insurance can save you from such expenses and promise care and attention during such times. While choosing a health insurance plan, make sure you run through the network of hospitals to locate one near your vicinity to get cashless coverage during an emergency.
