The Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s major tourist attractions, reopened Sunday following stabilization of a nearby volcanic eruption. Authorities revised security zones, deeming the area safe for visitors. Hundreds of tourists, including Cameron and Natalie Pacileo from North Carolina, enjoyed bathing in the lagoon with the erupting crater as a backdrop. The eruption, the fifth and most powerful since December, featured a fissure extending 3.5 kilometers and produced record lava levels. Previous eruptions and seismic activity had threatened the coastal town of Grindavik and led to evacuations. Situated above a volcanic hot spot, Iceland regularly experiences eruptions, with the 2010 Eyjafjallajokull eruption causing significant air travel disruptions across Europe.
