Morocco has overtaken Egypt as Africa’s leading tourist destination, welcoming 17.4 million visitors in 2024—a 20% rise from the previous year. This achievement, realized two years ahead of schedule, is due to strategic initiatives like opening 120 new air routes, promoting diverse domestic destinations, and upgrading hotel facilities. Tourism now accounts for approximately 7% of Morocco’s GDP, providing significant employment and foreign currency inflows. The country aims to attract 26 million tourists by 2030, coinciding with its role as a co-host for the FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. Additionally, Morocco is set to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025, expected to further boost tourist arrivals. These developments underscore Morocco’s commitment to positioning itself among the world’s top 15 tourist destinations.
