After a four-month winter hiatus, the Pakistan-China Khunjerab border reopens, heralding renewed trade and tourism prospects between the two nations. The seasonal closure, from December 1 to March 31, aims to mitigate severe winter conditions and heavy snowfall, as per bilateral agreement terms. The reopening, reported by The Nation, is anticipated to invigorate bilateral commerce and tourism, with uninterrupted transportation of essential goods across the border sustaining Pakistan's development initiatives. Alongside the Khunjerab border reopening, transportation activities resume in Gilgit-Baltistan's border areas and the Chinese city of Tashghargan, amplifying connectivity and economic prospects.Situated at 16,200 feet above sea level, Khunjerab Pass serves as the highest paved international border, linking Gilgit-Baltistan with China's Xinjiang region via the Karakoram Highway. Under the 1985 border protocol agreement, the pass operates for travel and trade between April and November, facilitating cross-border exchanges and fostering closer ties between the two nations.
