Due to this city 's dense population, the Mumbai RTO offices are one of the busiest RTOs, with lakhs of vehicles registered monthly. RTO Mumbai was established in the city under Section 213 of The Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. Mumbai RTOs function under the Maharashtra Transport Commissioner's supervision and apply the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. Mumbai RTO provides offline and online services to the public for an easy and hassle-free registration process and smooth movement of vehicles on the road.

You can register your vehicle at RTO Mumbai both offline by visiting the local RTO or online through the official website of RTO Mumbai. You also can register your new vehicle with RTO Mumbai through your vehicle's dealer. In all three processes, you must submit relevant documents along with the application form and pay registration fees. Here are the steps to register your vehicle by visiting the local RTO:
• Download the application Form 20 online from the official website of RTO Mumbai or collect it from the local RTO
• Visit your local RTO with your vehicle and submit the duly filled application form along with other required documents
• The documents submitted by you would be scrutinized by RTO superintended
• Pay the registration fee for your vehicle along with a tax on the RTO’s cash counter
• Before approving the registration certificate, the motor vehicle inspector with inspect your vehicle
• The RTO office would then enter the details of the vehicle in its central database to be verified by the RTO superintendent
• Your registration will be completed and approved by the officer of Assistant Regional Transport
• The smart card process would be initiated, and the smart card would be delivered to you at your registered address
Before arranging the following documents for successful vehicle registration at RTO Mumbai, buy a motor insurance policy for your vehicle. A copy of your vehicle’s insurance policy is necessary before going for registration.

• As per the Supreme Court's order, it is now mandatory for people buying a car to purchase a third party car insurance with a three-year policy tenure. On the other hand, a 5-year third party bike insurance policy is compulsory for new two-wheeler registration. However, suppose a bike owner opts for a comprehensive two wheeler insurance policy, we offer package cover with one year of own damage and five years of third party cover. If a person opts for a comprehensive car insurance policy for a private car, we offer a bundled policy of one year of own damage and three years of third-party cover.

You can pay for challan online through the e-challan payment Maharashtra state website or the Paytm app. The process is very easy in that you can pay the challan and check the list of pending challans on your vehicle that are required to be paid. You can pay for challan online through the Maharashtra E-challan payment website by following the following simple steps:
• Visit the website of e-challan payment Maharashtra state or simply click on https://mahatrafficechallan.gov.in/payechallan/PaymentService.htm?_qc=bc1aa7424d3ccb5c3a06c7372997c65c.
• Then select the option “Challan Number” and fill in the number of the challan that you want to pay. Before moving forward with payment, ensure to link your mobile number to your vehicle number if not already done.
• The details of the challan would be displayed on the screen.
• Click on ‘Pay now, and you will be directed to the payment page
• Select your convenient payment mode and make the payment, after which a receipt will be generated as an acknowledgement of the payment.
To pay challan online through the Paytm app, you can do the following:
• Open the Paytm App
• Search for ‘Research and bill payments
• Then, click on Challan under the ‘Transit’ tab.
• Fill in the traffic authority and enter your details, such as challan number, vehicle number and chassis/ engine number
• Click on ‘proceed’ and select the convenient payment mode
• On the payment is made, a receipt acknowledgement will be generated and sent to your registered mobile number.
