Pune is one of the busiest city in Maharashtra, with a lot of vehicle movement. The RTO Pune, established under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, section 213, ensures that city traffic is controlled. Apart from this, the primary responsibility of Pune RTO is to enforce the Motor Vehicle Act’s rules, regulations and provisions. The Pune RTO also collects road taxes, issue permits, road safety measures and undertake measures to control pollution. The Transport commissioner of the state of Maharashtra heads RTO Pune. RTOs in Pune abide by the regulations laid down in the Maharashtra state vehicles regulations, 1989.

There are two types of registration done. However it is important to note that permanent registration is necessary to run the vehicle on road as per Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.
Temperory Registration : Temporary registration refers to the registration number offered by the vehicle dealer, valid only for seven days. It is done for the buyer's convenience to legally drive the vehicle for seven days, after which a permanent registration is mandatory.
Permanent Registration: Permanent registration is the actual registration of the vehicle and happens seven days after a vehicle is purchased from any showroom. Permanent registration happens only at RTO and applies only to new vehicles, not second-hand purchases. However, a permanent registration is valid only for fifteen years, after which it has to be renewed
Under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, it is mandatory for every vehicle to have a Registration Card. Pune RTO is responsible for the RC of every vehicle in Pune city. They have been decentralized to ensure that the vehicle registration steps are quick and hassle-free.

• You need to submit all the documents mentioned above.
• The inspecting authority at RTO will inspect the vehicle and take an imprint of the chassis number.
• Then, you have to pay the registration fee at the counter of the Pune RTO so that the authorities can put your vehicle's data into the central database managed by the GOI.

How To Renew Vehicle Registration At Pune RTO
After the completion of 15 years of any Registration Certificate(RC), it expires, and the vehicle owner has to compulsory renew it. Then, after every five years, the RC needs to be renewed. Irrespective of what vehicle you've purchased, it is compulsory to register it at the nearest RTO to register the vehicle with the Indian Government officially. • As per the Supreme Court's order, it is now mandatory for people buying a car to purchase a third party car insurance with a three-year policy tenure. On the other hand, a 5-year third party bike insurance policy is compulsory for new two-wheeler registration. However, suppose a bike owner opts for a comprehensive two wheeler insurance policy, we offer package cover with one year of own damage and five years of third party cover. If a person opts for a comprehensive car insurance policy for a private car, we offer a bundled policy of one year of own damage and three years of third-party cover.
