The National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) platform is a digital platform that connects insurers, healthcare providers and policyholders through advanced digital technologies for effective and expedited claims settlements. HDFC ERGO General Insurance processed its first health claim through The National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) platform recently.
What is National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) platform?
The National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) platform is a digital platform created by the National Health Authority and the Union Health Ministry collectively as a part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. This platform aims to facilitate the exchange of claims-related information among insurers, third-party administrators, government schemes, hospitals, laboratories and other relevant entities. This platform aims to promote interoperability of health claims, democratising insurance and fostering transparency within the industry.
National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) platform will help?
According to the National Health Authority, the current claims settlement scenario in the country is manual, tedious and time-consuming. NHCX platform will digitise and automate the process. With this platform, a common claim format will be used across all insurers and hospitals defined by the National Health Authority. The hospitals can access the insurer's details through the patient's Ayushman Bharat Health Account number. The NHCX platform will validate the details and send them to the insurers for a faster claim settlement process. Recently the IRDAI has mandated that cashless claims should be processed within 3 hours of receiving the discharge authorisation request from the hospital. The NHCX platform will be of great help to follow this mandate.
