A recent report released by a major diagnostic centre, Healthians reveals that more Indians are proactively taking a keen interest in preventive healthcare by undergoing regular screening for cancer and other lifestyle diseases. The report suggests people are finally realising the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare measures. This indicates that healthcare management has taken a prime place among the populace. According to the data, 52 percent of males and 48 percent of females have booked screening for various types of cancer screening tests including ovarian cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, bowel cancer and others. However, despite the significant surge in screening from 2.7 percent to 4.05 percent over the last five years the percentage of positive cases has also increased. This puts a question on the effectiveness of the preventive healthcare measures.
However, with more people going for cancer screening, there is a better opportunity for us can fight the cancer burden by early detection and treatment.
