Indians’ Unhealthy Sugar Report A Growing Concern Among Experts And The Public

According to a study conducted by a renowned diagnostic service provider Thyrocare, 49.43 % of the tested population in India exhibited abnormal blood sugar levels, with 27.18 % identified as diabetic and 22.25 % as prediabetic. The study was conducted on 1.96 million undergoing routine health check-ups in 2023. A few months back a similar report was published in the Lancet Journal which indicated that a quarter of adults living with diabetes globally in 2022 were Indians.

According to a recent Thyrocare study, males had a higher diabetes prevalence at 30.84% compared to 23.51 percent among females. The recent numbers show a sharp rise in prevalence of the disease as compared to National Family Health Survey – 5 findings for 2019-2021, which reported 16.8% prevalence for males and 15.4% prevalence for women. The data shows that there is an immediate need to address the concerns and growing risk factors among the populace to propagate a healthy culture and nationhood.
