New Blood Test For Detecting Colon Cancer Approved by FDA

The US FDA has approved a new blood test called Shield that can help detect colon cancers early, which have been affecting younger populations at large across the globe. This blood test will help in early screening of the cancer and help avert the dangers much ahead of time. This blood test also expands the screening options for the patients and can help detect the red flags on time.

The blood test called Shield is manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Guardant Health Inc. and got the green signal from the US Food and Drug Administration too. The approval came after the results of the clinical studies were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in March this year.

The study found that the blood test detected colon cancer correctly in about 83% of the patients who were later confirmed to have contracted the cancer. These participants didn’t show any symptoms of the cancer and were at an average risk of developing the same. The Shield blood test is the result of 10 years of research and development. Shield is the first blood test approved by the US FDA to be opted as a primary screening option for healthcare experts.
