DR BN Gangadhar, Chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC) emphasised that to improve medical facilities in India, the primary focus should be on ensuring the highest quality of medical education in India. He assured that expanding the pool of teachers and ensuring that the medical colleges have an adequate patient population can foster effective learning. He highlighted the fact that top quality doctors were always produced from India keeping the reputation of the country on a pedestal. The non-availability of faculties at medical colleges has now become a challenge for the entire country. Dr Gangadhar, also said that an Aadhaar-enabled attendance should be in place to track accurate records. He also mentioned that patient identification should become more electronic and reduce instances of fake patients. Highlighting the functionality of the ABHA IDs, he said it is a great tool for patient identification which can turn out to be more robust in the coming years.
The initiatives taken by NMC aim to improve the quality and transparency of medical education in India while addressing the critical issues that the country’s medical facilities are grappling with.
