An independent survey done by Healthians, a chain of multi-speciality labs recently showed that that 31 percent of Indians struggle with high cholesterol, with Kerala topping the list with an alarming 63 percent prevalence. The survey, points out that the trend is particularly prevalent among the 35-54 age group, where 34.5 percent of individuals are affected.
Being affected with high cholesterol is a lifestyle issue that can be a significant contributing factor to various cardiovascular problems. Experts at Healthians believe that sedentary lifestyles, bad eating habits, stress and sleep problems are some of the contributing factors to Indian’s alarming health report card. However, they are also confident that regular check-ups, corrective eating, stress and sleep management can avert the impending cardiovascular burden among the Indians.
Interestingly the survey pointed out the universality of the concern showing that both men and women are equally affected by the budding cholesterol chaos with 31% and 30%, prevalence respectively.
While Kerala tops the list, Karnataka, and Telangana emerge as hotspots, pressing the need for targeted interventions. The report’s findings serve as a wake-up call for India’s healthcare system, emphasizing the imperative shift from curative to preventive measures.
