1. Follow all the traffic laws. Traffic laws are made to ensure the safety of all road users. It is best to follow them for your safety and that of all others.
2. Always wear a helmet or seat belt. Helmet and seat belt are not just meant to protect you from challans. They are primarily meant to save lives in accidents. When behind the wheel, ensure you buckle up before you embark on your journey. Similarly, when riding a bike or scooter, always wear an ISI mark helmet. Remember to buy a helmet insurance add-on in your bike insurance.
3. Do not use your mobile phone while driving. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, any person who is found to be using mobile phones while driving can be liable for a fine or imprisonment. Additionally, usage of phone is a distraction putting drivers and other road users at great risk. Thus, to avoid accidents as well as hefty fines, pull over to the side of the road for urgent calls.
4. Always carry compulsory documents in the vehicle. Did you know that, by law, you are required to carry four important documents when driving? These are your driving license, vehicle registration card, motor insurance, and pollution certificate for the vehicle you are driving. Make sure you have these before you step out of your house!
5. Get comprehensive vehicle insurance. While the law mandates all Indian vehicles to be insured with at least third-party insurance, but it is advisable to get comprehensive two-wheeler insurance or comprehensive car insurance, depending upon your vehicle. In case of emergency, this policy will not only cover your third-party expenses but also extend security to you and your vehicle with features such as add-on covers, extensive cashless network, emergency roadside assistance, 24x7 customer service and more.
While these tips don’t catch you on the wrong side of the law, but they are essential tips that will aid you in a seamless drive or ride, no matter where you go!
1. Always keep your vehicle in a well-maintained condition. This is the most basic precaution that women must take. While most modern bikes and cars are very reliable, you must follow the service and maintenance routine religiously. Brakes, seatbelts, tyres, ABS and airbags should all be properly maintained.
2. Learn about the basic repairs of your vehicle. This is something that every female vehicle owner must do. Read the owner’s manual and research about the cost of making basic repairs to avoid being fleeced by roadside repair shops. Your car insurance policy also comes with roadside assistance for emergency support. You can opt for this add-on when you renew your car insurance online.
3. Always keep the first aid kit in your vehicle. Your vehicle is usually equipped with a first-aid kit at the time of purchase. Make sure that the kit is always kept in the vehicle and the contents inside are valid and have not expired.
4. Always keep a spare mobile phone with important contacts in the vehicle. This will provide you with a second layer of security in times of emergency, in case your main phone runs out of charge.
5. Share location with someone you trust. Many modern mobile phones allow you to share live location with people. When you are driving, you should share your live location with your trusted family members. This will allow them to track you down in case of an emergency. This is particularly important for female workers, who travel a lot for work, especially at odd hours.
Conclusion
Always keep in mind that driving a vehicle should always be a single-focus activity. Never try to multi-task while driving. Renew your vehicle insurance when due, and remember, safety first!
