Buying a car is one of the important decisions you make; it not only requires financial investment but also requires you to think wisely to ensure you make the right purchase. Right from your usage to maintenance, there are several other things too you need to be aware of. Read about the five things you should know before buying a car.
Price of the car: The price that you pay for your car does not depend only on one factor. The on-road price of your car will be more than its ex-showroom price as you will also have to register the car at the RTO, pay the road tax and spend on a good car insurance policy.
Manual or automatic: Automatic cars have slowly become popular in India. These cars make for a good choice if you travel frequently and often drive in heavy traffic areas. On the other hand, manual cars cost less and offer high mileage in comparison to automatic cars that give you a low mileage.
Opt for petrol, diesel or CNG: If you are looking to drive the car in long routes, then opting for diesel is a good choice as diesel is cheaper than petrol. However, diesel cars require high maintenance in comparison to petrol cars. In comparison to both petrol and diesel, CNG cars are popular but there are fewer CNG outlets in the city due to which fueling the car would be a hassle-filled experience.
You need car insurance: Insuring your car with third party insurance is mandatory as per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Third party insurance provides coverage against all the liabilities arising out of damages caused to third person or property; it does not cover any damage caused to your car.
On the other hand, you can always opt for a comprehensive policy as it covers damages to your car in addition to third party and , property. When buying a new car, it is always advisable to opt for a comprehensive coverage as it is a covers both own damage and third party cover.
Registration process: This is another regulation that is mandatory by the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. In order to drive your car legally on the Indian roads, it is mandatory that you get it registered at the nearest RTO. By doing this, you can legally drive your car freely all over India without having to pay any fines or penalties. On registration of the car, you will receive a number plate which will have to be displayed on the front and back of the car. You will also receive a registration certificate stating the legal registration of your car.
When buying a car, it is significant to understand that you will have to comply with certain legal responsibilities that require your due attention. Missing out on an important factor will attract lawful action. Apart from this, you need to practice safe driving and ensure you are following all the traffic rules and regulations.
