Tata Nexon EV Max

Tata enjoys a prime position in India’s automotive market, and unlike many other companies, it knows what works the best for changing consumer tastes! Why? Despite having taken the market by storm with their Nexon EV already, they didn’t sit on their laurels and wait. They kept on innovating and moving ahead, to give all their competitors a hard run for their money. With the Nexon EV Max, Tata Motors has just embarked on an exciting journey that will leave others far behind. So, if you are planning to get your hands on this awesome car, read on. And make sure you buy a comprehensive car insurance plan as well, since no one can predict curveballs on the road.

What makes the Nexon EV Max so special?

The basic components of any electric car are three main things – the battery, motor and controller/charger. With the Nexon EV Max, Tata has worked wonders with all these aspects. The car is now able to generate 141 BHP of power and 250 Nm of torque. This is a gain of 14 BHP and 5Nm over the currently sold Nexon electric in the market. Tata has said that the new car will be able to go from standstill to 60 kmph in a matter of 9 seconds which is one second faster than the current Nexon EV model.

On the battery side of things, the new car also gets an upsized battery of 40.5 kwh where you can get real world range of 300 km. If you drive in a calm manner on highways, you will be able to get even more. However, Tata does limit the top speed of the car to 120 kmph and a rather vigorous chime starts alerting you when you cross the speed of 80 kmph. Why?Well the latter is because the law requires them to and former is because Tata does not want to you to start having too much fun and then end up with range anxiety, and worse still, ruin your battery health before its rated lifetime.

On the charger side of things, you get the CCS2 charger, no CHAdeMO. Up to 50 KW DC fast charging is now supported, which can juice your car up to 80% in just less than an hour. For domestic charging, you still get the slow charger, which works by drawing 3.3KW from standard 15A wall plug with earthing. This will take you from 10% to 100% SoC in about 15 hours, but for most people, a charge of 80% is enough for daily runs. Besides, charging the car to 80% impacts battery life much less than charging it to 100%. This will help a lot in the long run.

Why choose the EV Nexon Max over any other car?

The car has been launched at a price range of INR 17.74 lakhs to INR 19.24 lakhs. Coupled with registration, car insurance, road tax etc., the car should be in your garage theoretically at a price of less than INR 20 lakhs. 20 lakhs for a Nexon may seem like an outrage to some but remember that you are also paying for the future fuel costs in one go when compared to a standard liquid fuel car. The price of petrol is INR 100 plus in most states and it will only keep moving upwards. If you travel 100 km daily, the car will justify its cost in about 5 years. Also, if you continue to keep the car for 10 years, and ensure careful driving, you can make your battery last the whole time. Plus, because Tata already gives 8 years warranty on the battery, you are almost covered in that regard.

What makes the EV Max a game changer?

The Nexon EV Max is not the one with the highest top speed, nor with the flashiest design and nor does it have the largest capacity battery for an EV in India. It does not carry the aspirational value of a Tesla either. What it does promise is the ability to be a work horse and the ability to be the only car in your garage. No need to keep an Internal Combustion Engine car for long trips anymore. The Nexon EV Max is affordable enough to give good value and has enough range to serve the occasional long trip you need.

In summary, if you can get your hands on one of these, make sure that you take good care of it. Get a proper TATA CAR INSURANCE policy as well and renew the same on time. Ensure the car is regularly serviced as per the schedule given by Tata Motors in the manual. Park the car in a clean, shaded area and not in direct sunlight. Also ensure that it does not get stuck in flooded places. With a bit of caution, you can enjoy the Nexon EV Max for a long time to come.
