4. Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)
PHEVs are a more sophisticated version of HEVs. They also have an internal combustion engine together with the electric motor. The PHEVs operate on an electric motor until the battery is depleted of energy. After the battery runs out of electricity, it then uses an internal combustion engine. The electric motor is powered by battery which can be recharged unlike HEVs. The battery pack is charged using the internal combustion engine, regenerative braking or the traditional electrical grid.
