Upcoming SUVs in India 2024: Preview and Expectations

Upcoming SUVs in India 2024

SUVs top the list of favourites in the Indian car market. With the start of the new year, many automakers are getting ready to launch new ones. Some SUVs will be upgraded versions of existing models, and some will be available in India for the first time. Kia India and Hyundai Motor India have already launched the facelifted versions of the Sonet and the Creta, respectively. So, what can we expect from other carmakers this year? Here’s our upcoming SUVs 2024 guide, covering budget to luxury models:

Mahindra Thar 5-door

Mahindra plans to appeal to a broader audience with a 5-door Thar that would be apt for people seeking a tough SUV. Expected to launch in mid-2024, this SUV has a longer wheelbase, resulting in an extra door and added space in the second row and boot. It’s likely to retain the same 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines mated to a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission gearbox.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé

The upgraded GLC Coupé, a stylish alternative to the GLC SUV, is one of the several upcoming SUVs by top carmaker Mercedes-Benz in 2024. The lift-back-style tailgate and sloping roofline of the Coupé give its design an edge, as does its latest Mercedes tech and connectivity. The new Coupé, tentatively scheduled to launch in April 2024, will likely use a 2.0-litre turbo petrol or diesel engine. Don’t be surprised if you see an AMG version of the GLC Coupé.

Tata Curvv

The Tata Curvv, slated to launch in mid-2024, will be a swanky SUV coupé, a level above the Tata Nexon. The Curvv will appeal to people looking for an extraordinary product that boasts an SUV’s practicality—high ground clearance and an elevated seating position. A sloping roofline that integrates with the notchback-styled boot and rugged features like a thick body are the highlights of Curvv’s design. Initially, the SUV will be available as an electric vehicle (EV) with a range of 400-500km. The other powertrain option—a 125hp, 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol with a manual or automatic gearbox—will be launched later.

Ferrari Purosangue

Expected to launch in March 2024, the Purosangue is Ferrari’s first SUV. The renowned Italian automaker is marketing it as its first-ever four-door, four-seater car. With an engine layout that of a sports car and a rear-mounted gearbox, this Prancing Horse SUV will use a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine generating 725hp and 716Nm. The Purosangue will have an all-wheel drive—an 8-speed transaxle dual-clutch auto gearbox to control the rear wheels and an additional 2-speed unit for the front wheels. As per claims, the SUV can sprint from 0 to 100kph in 3.3 seconds. Its top speed will be 310kph.

Mahindra XUV300 facelift

The Mahindra XUV300 is in the final stages of getting heavy upgradations before its June 2024 launch. Its new styling cues will include:

- a more angular nose

- a revamped drop-down LED daytime running lamp

- a revised bumper and headlamp assembly.

It will also sport a new two-part grille with a larger central air intake. You can expect to see a redesigned interior too. The new XUV300 will likely continue with the same 1.5-litre diesel, 1.2-litre turbo petrol, and 1.2-litre direct injection turbo petrol (TGDI) engine options. However, the more powerful 131hp, 1.2-litre TGDI engine on the new XUV300 will have an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic (torque converter), along with a 6-speed manual one. The SUV will be equipped with more competitive safety features and the makers are thus expecting a 5-star NCAP rating. Even with all the safety parameters, it is necessary to buy comprehensive insurance to cover any loss or damage to the luxury car from any unfortunate incidents.

Nissan X-Trail (4th-gen)

Nissan will reintroduce its X-Trail in India in five-seat and seven-seat configurations. Expected to launch in June 2024, the X-Trail (4th generation) will likely have either a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology or a 1.5-litre e-Power engine with range extender hybrid technology. The latter powertrain option would mean the new X-Trail is an EV because an electric motor will power the wheels, and the engine will charge the batteries. One can expect to find a premium kit inside, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen, ADAS technology, and a 12.3-inch digital cluster.

Force Gurkha 5-Door

The new Gurkha, likely to launch in mid-2024, will have a long wheelbase and consequently, five doors. Force could offer various seating options with the new Gurkha, including captain’s chairs or a bench in the second row and jump seats or captain’s chairs in the third row. Like its three-door counterpart, the 2024 Gurkha will have a Mercedes-sourced 2.6-litre diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Conclusion

Additionally, the Hyundai Alcazar (facelift), Range Rover Evoque (facelift), Maserati Grecale, Mercedes-Benz GLE (facelift), Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Mercedes-Benz GLA (facelift), and the Mini Countryman (Third-gen) are some other upcoming SUVs of 2024. Irrespective of the SUV you purchase, buying car insurance is unmissable. While the Government of India mandates third party insurance for financial protection against third-party liabilities, we suggest getting comprehensive insurance for coverage against damages to your vehicle too. Buying car insurance online eliminates intermediaries and saves you time.
