What You Need to Know about the All-New Kia EV6
Rising fuel costs and climate change initiatives are gradually pushing Indians and people around the world towards the adoption of electric vehicles. Car manufacturers are already realigning their research and development objectives towards electrification, especially in developed countries. While developing countries like India are still playing catch-up, there has been a significant positive movement in EV adoption in India.
And it’s going to get better with the Kia EV6. One of the fastest-growing carmakers in India, Kia Motors has already made a mark in the automotive industry. The mid-sized Seltos was a roaring success, followed by the Carnival premium MPV. The success was further consolidated with the sub-compact Sonet and the Carens MPV. All of which need Kia insurance,so that you can protect yourself against financial liabilities arising out of unforeseen incidents.
Now, Kia has launched the all-electric EV6, a premium, electric, crossover-style SUV. Here’s why you should be excited.
1. Opposites United design
The EV6 is a gorgeous vehicle, bound to turn heads with its ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. Its smooth and flowing bonnet and roofline give way to spoilers with small wings on either side – for aerodynamic efficiency. The five-spoke wheels are extremely sporty, with most of the surfacearea covered for lower drag. Ergo, more mileage. The rear is striking, with a character line that arcs into rear lights stretching across the back, and back down to the other side of the car. This is the definitive bit of styling that will set it apart from other cars on the road.
The Kia EV6 comes in five colours – Runway Red, Yatch Blue, Moonscape, Aurora Black Pearl, and Snow White Pearl.
2. Under the hood
The Kia EV6 comes with the option of two battery packs. The 58 kWh battery comes with a 170 bhp motor and rear-wheel drive (RWD). You can also choose the higher specification of a 235 bhp dual-motor and all-wheel drive (AWD) setup. The 77.4kWh battery pack can be had with a 229 bhp motor and RWD. Or, you can go for the more-powerful, 325 bhp dual-motor with AWD setup. The top-of-the-line GT version comes with the 77.4 kWh battery, a 585 bhp dual-motor setup and AWD.
3. Battery range and charging
While it does not offer ground-breaking range, you can get a maximum of 500 kilometres on a single charge, depending on the variant. However, its party trick is the ultrafast charger, that can charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes. Otherwise, it takes over an hour using the 50kW fast charger.
4. Roomy interiors
The EV6 is large. Built on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), it coincidentally, shares the same dimensions as the Mahindra XUV 700. There’s enough space in the backseat for three people, sans the floor tunnel. The front passengers enjoy ample legroom. Moreover, with just the press of a button, the front seats recline significantly, while the base tilts upwards, moving you into a comfortable position as you wait. The rear seats can be folded to extend the already large boot at 520 litres. You also get front storage of 20 litres, while the RWD variants provide a larger 52-litre storage space. The interiors have a premium feel to them with the use of recycled materials and the dark colour scheme. You get ambient lighting, sunroof, ventilated seats, and an AC outlet for devices such as a laptop.
5. Launch and price
The Kia EV6 launched in June in India. Kia plans to sell only 100 units in the country and has started the pricing at INR 59.95 lakhsfor the single motor RWD variant, going up to INR 65 lakhs for the dual motor variant. While the top-spec variant knocks on the doors of the BMW i4, the EV6 competes with the Hyundai Ioniq5, the Mini Cooper SE, and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. Packed with driver assist systems, and 8 safety airbags, the Kia EV6 is a safe and attractive option for those who can afford it. Avail Kia insurance and take the EV6 out for a spin. Before the price was announced, Kia had already received more than 300 bookings for the European Car of the Year. The deliveries of the vehicles are expected to commence in September 2022.
