Dr YSR Aarogyasri Card: Eligibility, Benefits & Coverage

Quality healthcare services remain a major concern in most parts of the country, including Andhra Pradesh, especially for economically weaker sections of society. Due to the ever-increasing healthcare costs, low-income families often face difficulties in accessing timely and specialised medical care. This leads to delayed treatments, worsening health conditions, and increased financial burden. Dr Aarogyasri Health Scheme aims to address these issues by providing free and comprehensive medical coverage to underprivileged families.
Launched in 2007, the Dr YSR Aarogyasri Health Scheme is a transformative initiative by the Andhra Pradesh Government. It provides free quality healthcare for various medical procedures and treatments to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in empanelled hospitals across the state. In case of a medical emergency, covered families can show the YSR Aarogyasri Card and avail themselves of timely cashless treatment, leading to improved health outcomes. Read on to learn more about this valuable health scheme.
Benefits of Dr YSR Aarogyasri Health Scheme
The benefits of the Dr Aarogyasri Health Scheme are as follows —
1. Hospital care:
If hospitalisation is required, the scheme provides comprehensive coverage for in-patient treatments in government and network hospitals. Beneficiaries can receive treatment for a wide range of illnesses and medical conditions without worrying about the financial burden.
2. Outpatient treatment:
In addition to hospital care, the scheme covers outpatient treatments. These include services like consultations, diagnostic tests, and minor treatments provided at network hospitals and health camps. These services are offered as a part of the cashless facility, so beneficiaries can access healthcare without making upfront payments.
3. Cashless healthcare:
This is one of the key features and benefits of the scheme. Once registered, the eligible family members can avail of cashless treatment of up to INR 5 lakhs per family per year. The coverage includes all hospitalisation and treatment costs at network hospitals.
4. Coverage for pre-existing conditions:
The scheme also covers treatment for pre-existing conditions or the health issues the covered members are suffering from before enrolling in the scheme. This helps individuals with chronic conditions or ongoing diseases access timely medical care without worrying about the bills.
5. Follow-up care:
The scheme also covers follow-up treatments and post-hospitalisation expenses, which could otherwise create financial woes. This ensures the beneficiaries receive comprehensive care during recovery as well.
6. Affordable family health insurance:
The YSR Aarogyasri Health Scheme offers affordable family health insurance, providing coverage for the entire family, including parents, under one policy. Therefore, the eligible family members can access the benefits of the scheme without purchasing separate policies. The scheme reduces healthcare costs for low-income families, making quality healthcare more accessible.
