5 Travel Lessons from 10 Years of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Published on August 10, 2021. EST READ TIME: 3 minutes5 Travel Lessons from 10 Years of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Once in a while, you come across a movie that inspires you to live life a little differently. And it forges an instant bond if it tells the tale of a friendship. While Dil Chahta Hai taught us to value friendships and love, 3 Idiots taught us to chase excellence and not success, and Chhichhore reminded us that no defeat is big enough and we can always make a comeback. Similarly, 10 years ago, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara directed by Zoya Akhtar, made us fall in love with the concept of travelling and introspection. The movie sparks wanderlust and tells you that if you don’t explore, you will miss out on something amazing. So, here is a look at the 5 travel lessons this story of Kabir Dewan (Abhay Deol), Imran Qureshi (Farhan Akhtar), and Arjun Saluja (Hrithik Roshan) gave us.

1. You Only Live Once

As the title suggests, we have only one life and we should make the most of that. Yes, we have jobs and responsibilities, but we must not forget that the spirit of life is way bigger than a salary or status. And when we take that break and explore new places, meet new people, have new experiences, we also discover something new in ourselves. These adventures make us smile even after years. If you can’t decide, answer this. What would you remember? Sea-diving to admire beautiful aquatic life or that one night when you were swamped with work? Exactly!

2. Live in the Present

At one point, Kabir tells his friend-cum-love interest, Laila (Katrina Kaif) that he has plans to work till 40 and then retire. To which she asks him how he is so sure that he will live till 40. Taking precautions and making plans are important. For example, you should definitely buy a travel insurance policy when you pack your bags. But the bigger point is that don't postpone your present completely to build a future. Take time to absorb what's happening around you - maybe your loved ones need your time now more than that house you will provide them later. Confessing your love without the fear of rejection or calling off a toxic relationship are moments to cherish. Similarly, confronting the issues that keep you awake at night or coming clean again are decisions that make you feel lighter. So, don't defer what feels right because that chance may not present itself again.

3. Create Beautiful Memories and Travel to Your Favourite places

Think of the most beautiful memories and we are pretty sure that some of them would be about those college trips where you had so much fun. We look through our old photos and are instantly reminded of all those moments spent in the hills of Himachal, beaches of Goa, backwaters of Kerala, or trips to Paris, New York, Singapore. Striking off places from your must-visit list is an amazing feeling.

4. You should go on a road trip with your friends

If you have a few friends and you are pretty close, you are among the luckiest people in the world. So, at least once, take a road trip with your friends. It's the best exercise for a digital detox and your wellbeing. Stopping at roadside kiosks for tea, playing your favourite songs, and sharing all sorts of lame jokes are signs of an awesome trip.

5. Don't let your fears hold you back from an adventure trip

In the film, one friend dared the other two to participate in one unique challenge and despite being scared, they all did it. Courage doesn't mean not being frightened, it means you can overcome that fear and do what's necessary. While you should not act without thinking, you should also not just keep thinking without taking any action. An adventure trip challenges you physically, mentally, and emotionally. It makes you introspect and learn something new about yourself.

Conclusion

Well, watching a film is one thing, but travelling for real is another. So, with more cities and countries opening now and welcoming tourists back, pack your bags for an eventful trip. But this time, be super cautious - follow all COVID protocols and take all precautions to stay away from the infection. Lastly, don't forget to buy the right travel insurance policy that will keep your savings intact in case of a medical emergency, lost baggage or passport or a flight delay. Bon, voyage!
