Several countries across the globe have started issuing digital nomad visas to Indian passport holders since this concept was first introduced by Estonia back in 2022. This has revolutionised the concept of the conventional nature of jobs.

1. Croatia

The digital nomad visa of this country permits you to stay and work in the country for 6 months to 1 year. However, unlike a typical visa, it functions like a temporary work permit.

To get this, you need to be either a salaried employee, a freelancer, or a valid self-employed individual, essentially working with non-Croatian clients.

Other than a valid passport, you need a fixed monthly income of at least €2870, which is approximately INR 259580, health insurance cover, a clean police record from your home country, accommodation details like booking confirmation or lease agreement in Croatia, and a duly filled-in and signed application form.

You can easily submit your application to the Croatian embassy either online or in person at the local police station nearest to your accommodation in the country.

Once the application gets approved, you must register your temporary address in Croatia within 30 days. You have to complete the registration within 3 days if you immediately enter the country.

This visa is non-renewable and you can stay up to 1 year. There is no minimum stay limit.

2. Germany

Germany offers a Freelance visa which is similar to a digital nomad visa. To acquire this, the concerned individual must be involved in teaching, medical, technical, creative or medical professions. You have to maintain sufficient fund proof to sustain you for 1 year.

The minimum monthly requirement needs to be €1280, valid proof of freelance work, educational proof from a state-recognised institution, health insurance, residency documents, etc. along with the visa application form. You have to schedule an appointment with the German embassy.

You must note that all the documents must be translated into German and preferably you must maintain 2 sets of all the documents for future reference.

The minimum stay requirement is 6 months. The application processing time is ¾ months.

3. Greece

The digital nomad visa offered here is open to every non-EU individual. To apply, you need to submit your employment proof/contract with the organisation, which must be essentially non-Greek or authentic proof of independent/freelance work, income proof, with a minimum monthly income of €3500, accommodation proof in Greece, health cover, cover letter, medical certificate, clean police record issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, along with confirmed return ticket.

You must submit all the documents along with the visa application form online or in person at the German embassy office or website. The processing time is 2-4 weeks and stay permission is up to 1 year.

4. Indonesia

Indian passport holders can work remotely here with an E33G visa for up to 1 year. You must maintain a minimum bank balance of $2000 and account statements showing a minimum annual income of $60000, along with employment proof in any non-Indonesian organisation.

The minimum stay requirement is 90 days. The processing time is 7-14 business days.

5. Italy

If you have a digital nomad visa here, you can stay and work for up to 1 year. Apart from a valid passport, you require 2 recent coloured passport-size photographs, a duly signed visa application form, a declaration signed by the respective employer certifying the absence of any convictions, a minimum annual income of €28000, health insurance with Italian medical coverage, accommodation proof along with a minimum of 6 months of prior job experience in your desired sector as a nomad worker.

You are permitted to stay for 1 year with this visa and it can be annually renewed. The processing time is 1-3 months.

6. Mauritius

The Mauritius Premium Travel Visa provides digital nomads with a flexible multi-entry pass to live and work in the country for 6 to 12 months, with an option to renew. You need to have a valid passport, and income proof with a minimum monthly income of $1500 for a solo trip and a minimum of $500 for every dependent child, non-Mauritian employment proof, accommodation proof, health insurance, and travel insurance, preferably overseas travel insurance.

7. Portugal

All non-EEA and non-EU residents qualify for applying for the Portuguese digital nomad visa. Remote workers can easily apply for a temporary visa with multiple entry permissions and accommodation permission for 1 year. However, you cannot extend this permit or apply for residency with this.

For a temporary visa, the applicant must be above 18 years of age, possess remote work proof, employment proof, a society contract in the case of self-employment, clean police records, permanent residence proof in the home country, Portuguese accommodation proof, minimum monthly income proof of €3280.

8. Spain

Spain offers this digital nomad visa opportunity to all self-employed professionals or remote workers working in non-Spanish organisations. Here, the digital nomads can also work locally apart from their remote work, provided that this local job must not account for over 20% of the entire activity.

All the applicants must have an undergraduate/postgraduate degree from a recognised university along with proof of at least 3 years of work experience. For visa application, you need your passport, clear criminal records, contractual work proof in the case of self-employment, non-Spanish work employment, permanent residence proof in the home country, and health insurance.

The visa processing time is approximately 10 working days.
