Amma two wheeler scheme is a women-special scheme that has been launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu, for empowering women, especially those belonging to the poorer section of society. This scheme targets to empower working women, easing their work-related travel hassles.

Launched back in February 2018 by the Tamil Nadu government, this special scheme aims the development of poorer working women in society. This scheme allows a discount of INR 25000 or an optimum of 50%, whichever is lower, on the purchase of two wheelers.

Differently-abled women can also avail of this discount upon retrofitted three-wheelers. The remaining funds must be adjusted either through a bank loan or through personal means.

1. Women must be actively engaged either collectively or individually for activity employment or wage for livelihood.

2. Women who need to commute long distances for work.

3. Their earnings prove to be the chief source of income for the families.

4. The concerned women must be authorised and registered as authentic workers in unorganised and organised sectors.

5. Women who are employed in shops and other establishments.

6. Self-employed women engaged in petty trading activities.

7. Women who are either daily wage earners earn a consolidated salary, work in private organisations, government-aided organisations, government projects, community-based organisations like several village committees, Mavatta Makkal Kattral Maiyam, etc.

8. Banking facilitators and correspondents.

9. ASHA workers.

10. Women will receive priorities under the following circumstances: residing in hilly regions and remote areas, deserted, destitute, widows, differently abled, unmarried and aged above 35 years, SC/ST, transgenders, and household heads.

As per the norms mentioned in the circular issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu, the reservation quota for the Amma two wheeler scheme works as follows:

1. SC-21%

3. Differently-abled-4% (all categories)

Amma two wheeler scheme application form

You need to follow these few simple steps to apply for the Amma two wheeler scheme also termed the Amma Scooty Yojana:

1. First, download the application form from the official website or collect it physically from block offices, collectorates, or urban local body offices.

2. Duly fill and sign the application form and submit it to the respective block office or urban local body office physically, or send them either by registered post or speed post. With physical submission, the designated counters accept it every working day from 10 am – 5 pm.

For rural areas

1. Download the rural area-specific application form from the website.

2. Paste a recent passport-size photo at the designated space.

3. Enter the details of the panchayat, block, district, sex, father/husband’s name, and permanent address along with other personal details as required.

4. Enter the vehicle details that you are willing to purchase, bank loan application (if applicable), and bank details and enclose the invoice quotation.

For urban areas

1. Download the urban area-specific application form from the official website.

2. Paste a recent passport-size photo.

3. Enter the address details, municipality/town panchayat details, father/husband’s name, DOB, educational qualification, etc.

4. Enter the LL or DL details, the type of two wheeler that you are planning to purchase, invoice quotation of the concerned vehicle, bank account and loan details.

5. Include all the supporting documents like an Aadhaar card copy, DL/LL copy, community certificate, education proof, etc.

6. Enter the place and date and duly sign it.

Along with the application you need to submit copies of the following documents:

1. Age proof.

2. Residence proof (EPIC card/Aadhaar card/DL/utility bills in the name of the applicant).

3. DL/LL registration issued by authorised organisation/personnel.

4. Self-attested income certificate or one issued by the employer.

5. Employment proof issued by the employer/project head/ organisation/society in the case of wage or salaried employment.

6. Aadhaar card.

7. Educational qualification proof (TC, SSLC, etc.).

8. Passport-size photo.
