How to Do Leg Raises?

Leg raises are bodyweight workouts that target glutes, the pelvis, hips, legs, and abs. It is one of the effective core exercises that help tone your abs, strengthen core muscles, and improves your overall posture and blood circulation. This exercise can be done from the comfort of your home as there is no need for any special equipment to perform this workout. Here, we will explore how to do leg raises step by step with precaution and proper workout positions.

Steps to do Leg Raises?

• Lie flat on your back on a yoga or exercise mat, extending your legs and placing your arms along your body or holding onto a fixed object like a bench.

• Engage your transverse abdominis by pulling in your belly button as if pressing your lower back into the ground.

• Exhale as you gradually lift your legs until they reach a 90-degree angle, and your lower back starts lifting off the ground; pause and complete exhalation at this point.

• While slowly lowering your legs, inhale and ensure your lower back maintains contact with the floor.

• Keep your feet hovering just above the floor at the end of the movement, emphasising the importance of keeping your lower back on the ground and your core actively engaged.

When performed correctly, this exercise will help you to

• build core strength and strong abs

• improve range of motion

• enhance back muscles

Conclusion

Leg raises should be done cautiously. If you are injured and have severe pain in your lower legs, then avoid doing this workout. If you are a beginner, seek help from a fitness trainer to guide you through the steps.
