Abu Dhabi-based retail giant Lulu Group International has tied up with the Punjab Government to set up a logistics and food-processing centre in Amritsar on a 20-acre land parcel that has a capacity of 2 lakh metric tons. Lulu Group has tied up with the Punjab government for the project and will begin construction work soon, Lulu Group director Salim MA told the media. He also mentioned that the city will now be a part of their sourcing of local products which will greatly help SMEs, local farmers, agricultural cooperatives and farmers’ producer organisations.
Lulu Group is known for its chain of shopping malls, hypermarkets and food processing centres spread across the Middle East, Far East and Africa. In India, the group has logistics and procurement centres in 15 states from where it annually exports Rs 10,000 crore worth of over 45,000 MT of agriculture and other products. These products are supplied to all the 270 retail stores of the group across the world. The Lulu group has always supported the thriving Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Our Group also intends to have a logistics and food processing centre in Amritsar for the storage, processing, grading and packing of various local agriculture and other produce. In addition to supporting the local agricultural community and SMEs, the centre would also create significant job opportunities in the state.
