The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has begun a survey to identify dangerous buildings in the national capital prior to the monsoons to ensure the safety of people residing in and around these buildings. The survey Includes all types of localities, approved colonies, unauthorised colonies or villages. The monsoon typically arrives in the month of July in Delhi.
According to the plan, the civic body has so far surveyed over 86,000 houses and none of them were found dangerous till now. If any building is found to be in a dilapidated condition, the MCD will serve notices to the owner for repairs followed by other required actions against dangerous buildings to avert any untoward incident, especially during the monsoon. The MCD estimates the total number of buildings in the city to be around 35 lakhs and has issued guidelines for the survey of all government offices, dispensaries, hospitals and municipal schools before the annual rainy season and instructed that these repairs be done on priority.
During the survey, the field staff inspects the buildings based on their visual appearance and also examines the condition of the structure. The entire exercise to identify dangerous buildings will be completed by the end of June 2024.
