Global NCAP Safety Rating for Kia Seltos

Kia Seltos has been a rage in the Indian automobile market ever since its launch in 2019. The compact SUV has been the highest-selling SUV in the market with 25000 units sold in the first three months of 2023. The major factors contributing to its popularity are its premium features, performance and stylish design. However, the Kia Seltos safety rating is an important aspect to consider if you are planning to buy this model. In this blog, we will discuss in detail the Global NCAP safety rating for Kia Seltos and its safety features.

If you are planning to buy a vehicle, car insurance is a must-have irrespective of the safety rating of your car. Comprehensive car insurance provides coverage against unexpected mishappenings and protects you when things go out of your control.

What is Kia Seltos Global NCAP Rating?

Kia Seltos safety rating was assessed to be a 3-star in a crash test conducted by Global NCAP. The base HTE variant of Kia Seltos was used for evaluation by Global NCAP. During this assessment, the structure of Seltos was slightly unstable and certain safety features were also found missing like ISOFIX anchorages, and 3-point seat belts for all passengers. Let us find out more about the assessment results.

Adult Occupant Protection

Kia Seltos scored 8.03 points out of 17 points for adult occupant protection in the Global NCAP assessment. Head and neck protection in the crash test was adequate for both the driver and passenger because the airbags lowered the impact. However, chest protection for the driver was not enough though it was rated good for the passenger. Knee protection was also marginal for both the driver and the passenger. For leg protection, the driver’s shinbone has weak protection while the passenger’s shinbone has good protection.

Child Occupant Protection

Kia Seltos scored 15 points out of 49 points for child occupant protection and was rated a 2-star for child safety by Global NCAP. The head protection for the child occupant was poor during the impact test. The child seat could not prevent the excessive forward movement during the impact. Chest protection was adequate. However, the Child Restraint System installed provided good head and chest protection.

Safety Assist Test

The model scored a 3 star out of 5 in the safety assist test conducted by Global NCAP. The ESC system demonstrated good control during the test. Most of the safety assist features of Kia Seltos performed well during the test but a few features such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and blind spot detection (BSD) can be further improved.

Considering the test results, and the Kia Seltos safety rating, the mid-size SUV has scope for improvement in terms of safety. However, it is important to note here that the base HTE variant which was tested, is a low-cost variant and not the highest variant of Kia Seltos.
