Secure the heart of your bike with these six tips

For bike owners, their two-wheeler is their prized possession. To ensure that the bike gives its optimum performance, the owner should go the extra mile to pay extra attention to the health of the engine. Let us discuss the importance and know-how of prolonging the life of your bike's engine.

Bike engine and its importance

Just like our heart pumps blood through our blood vessels and a little malfunction can be life-threatening, any damage to the engine will bring the bike to a halt. An engine is like the heart of a bike. It needs to run smoothly to keep your bike moving. Proper maintenance is crucial because it increases your vehicle's life and saves you both time and money that otherwise would have gone into service. Proper maintenance will help you increase your fuel mileage as well. On the contrary, letting dirt, old oil, and minor damages pile up will mean your bike engine will die prematurely.

Six tips for maintaining the motorcycle engine

1. Change engine oil at regular intervals: This is the first and most crucial step. The function of engine oil is to not only lubricate but also keep the engine cool. The heat produced during the combustion process can lead to massive wear and tear of the engine parts. Similarly, dirty engine oil reduces the capacity of fuel consumption. When the acidity level of the oil rises, it causes internal corrosion. All this can reduce the lifespan of an engine drastically. The presence of carbon deposits can thicken the oil, creating drag in engine internals' movement. Changing engine oil as per the manufacturer's recommendations is important.

2. Keep Engine Air Filters Clean: There is no shortage of dust on Indian roads, and thus, the air filters of your bike are bound to get clogged up after a few months. It’s basic to keep the air filters clean if you want increased efficiency. Also, get them changed at the recommended intervals. Replacing your engine air filter regularly will eliminate any blockages that may have built up over time. This will improve the engine’s ability to draw air, allowing it to exert lesser effort when operating, which will lower fuel consumption and improve gas mileage.

3. Check For Oil Leaks: Before starting and after parking your bike, check for any drops of fluid on the ground. If your fuel is leaking, show your bike to a mechanic and get it repaired immediately.

4. Don’t Overuse Reserve Fuel: If your bike is running on reserve fuel, get the tank filled immediately. Petrol contains sediments that keep settling down at the bottom of the bike tank, forming a layer over the years. This dirt starts reaching the engine when you ride your bike on low fuel. This can cause wear and tear.

5. Maintain Constant Speed: Going full throttle, no doubt, thrills, but applying the brakes at the very last moment increases the chances of you skidding and also exerts more pressure on the engine. So, practice gradual acceleration matching the required gear with speed and then apply the brakes gently. It will enhance fuel efficiency and keep the engine in good health.

6. Get Bike insurance: Along with annual servicing, you should protect your bike with TWO-WHEELER INSURANCE. While the law mandates THIRD-PARTY BIKE INSURANCE, COMPREHENSIVE BIKE INSURANCE is recommended for holistic protection of your bike.

Conclusion

A well-maintained bike engine can be the difference between a smooth and a bumpy ride. You can easily avoid the high cost of engine replacement or expensive repairs with proper care. With routine engine maintenance, you will be able to catch minor issues before they escalate.
