Want the best value when you sell your used two-wheeler. Here are 10 tips

Are you looking for an upgrade from your current bike or scooter? With so many makes and models being released in the market every year, it is natural to feel this way. So, it’s time to sell your old one! Now, what you should know is that many people who intend to sell their vehicles are not able to get the best value and regret later. Hence, here are a few tips to help you get the best value for your used vehicle.

1. Get it serviced: First and foremost, it is important to get your two-wheeler serviced before you start the process of selling it. Getting the bike or scooter serviced will help you get to know about any mechanical problems that may be present or may occur in the near future. A serviced, well-performing vehicle will always fetch more value.

2. Get it rust treated: Rust is the enemy of every metal product and your two-wheeler is primarily made of metal. When you ride it, it gets exposed to water and dirt, which can lead to rusting of the different parts. So, getting your vehicle rust treated will increase its look and life and fetch you more money.

3. Get it painted: Over time, your bike’s paint will tend to fade or get chipped from many places. Or, scratches and dents might also cause paint damage. Getting the paint touched up in all these areas will improve the bike’s look significantly. A good-looking and well-performing two-wheeler will always sell for a higher price than a scratched and dented bike.

4. Get its documents updated: Before you sell your second-hand bike, it is imperative to get all its documents in order. Make sure that the registration certificate of the vehicle contains proper address and owner details. Get the RC updated if you have moved to a new city or a different address in the same city. Also, get the pollution under certificate or PUC for your vehicle.

5. Get its insurance updated:Getting a third party TWO-WHEELER INSURANCE plan is mandated by law. An uninsured vehicle cannot be legally driven on any public road. If you have budget constraints, you can get only THIRD-PARTY BIKE INSURANCE, but a comprehensive BIKE INSURANCE policy is always recommended for all-round coverage. Also, make sure that after you sell your bike, you get the insurance transferred to your new two-wheeler, as it will allow you to transfer all its benefits like the no claim bonus (NCB).

6. Get updated copies of service history: Having valid and reliable service history documentation is proof that your vehicle has been adequately maintained. It instils confidence in the buyer that the two-wheeler is not at risk of developing sudden mechanical or technical failure of any kind. If you have serviced your bike or scooter from an authorised service centre, getting recorded service history will not be difficult at all.

7. Get NCRB clean vehicle report: National Crime Records Bureau is an Indian government agency that tracks vehicles that have been reported stolen. It also keeps track of vehicles that have been involved in any criminal activity. Having a clean report from NCRB for your second-hand bike will allow you to claim a higher value for it.

8. Post good photos: Photos attract buyers! When you are selling your bike online, it is important to post good quality photos of the vehicle. If you do not post good photos, you will either get very low offers or may not get any offers at all.

9. Quote higher than the expected price: It is always important to quote a higher price than what you would consider fair value. Anyone who plans to buy a second-hand bike will always want to negotiate. Hence, not quoting higher than expected price will leave you no room to negotiate.

10. Sell directly, not through agents: It is always better to sell your two-wheeler yourself. If you sell through agents, there is always the risk that they will underpay for your vehicle. Selling directly through web portals or social media sites will get you a better price and save you some commission.

Always remember that you are selling a two-wheeler second hand and have the seller’s advantage. So, never show that you are in a hurry to sell. Be ready to walk off from the negotiation if you do not think you are getting a good value.
